Regardless of where you are in your life, you can achieve just about anything. I am living proof that miracles do exist. You see, I am from inner city Detroit and grew up poor as poor can be. I had the biggest chip on my shoulder as well. The world OWED me! I could have been a better son for my Mother too; after all she provided for two sons and two daughters by herself. Fast forward and I quit school and was up to all kinds of no good. Throughout my life, aside of being reasonably intelligent , I had two things in my life that helped me, my best friends, who I still have to this day, and my Sister. Donna, straightened me out. She had a way of speaking that you had no choice but to listen. Even after she moved off her words resonated through time and touched me as a teenager. “Be a man! A man is never afraid of hard work. A man is never afraid of the truth.” The truth is, is that I wasted my life till that point. I got back in school, and by the time it was done and said with, I had a degree under my belt (I am working on the next one). I walked my butt into a recruiting station and joined the Navy. I spent 20 years in the Navy and retired well decorated and achieved the near impossible role of a Chief Petty Officer. All of that from a kid who had nothing. What was the secret? I failed a lot. I never accepted no as an answer, and I always helped anyone who needed it…always. If reading this and your feeling like shit, and you don’t know what to do, take a breath. If you can do that then you are alive. That my friend is a very good place to be. Pick something small, then achieve it, then on to the next thing. Never be too humble to except help, or too arrogant to offer it. Before you know it you just may find yourself very successful.
